Rookie Torain out 6-8 weeks
Broncos 5th round pick Ryan Torain will be out six to eight weeks after suffering a broken elbow in practice on Wednesday morning.
Reports this morning said he was down for several minutes after being tackled by Nate Webster and Jamie Winborn in 9-on-7 drills.
The injury should make Selvin Young's starting job a safer bet.

Breaking: Favre a Buc?
According to the Tampa Tribune, Brett Favre has given the go-ahead to Green Bay to discuss trade terms with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They go on to say that the "chances of the trade unraveling are remote and Favre has indicated to the Bucs directly that he is willing to change teams.."
Further to our salary cap analysis from a few weeks back, we can confirm that as the Bucs currently have more than enough space to absorb Favre's current deal (They would remain $14.2m under the cap after signing him) there would be no need to restructure the contract, and would more than likely expedite both Chris Simms and Jeff Garcia's departure from the Bay area. We cannot see Garcia, the Pro-Bowler who led the Bucs to the NFC South title in his debut year, being willing to be a backup late in his 30s. This was likely to be his final season, at least in Pewter, with Griese or McCown taking over in 09. We reported previously that teams such as the Bears and Chiefs would be interested in a (mobile) veteran signal-caller who could hold the offence together, and it appears that they now may have their chance - provided they install the West Coast Offence.

Cursed Chiefs?
After being projected with the best draft of all 32 teams by the media, the Kansas City Chiefs may have been wishing otherwise. Both first round picks, DT Glenn Dorsey and LT Brandon Albert suffered injuries in the last four days; Dorsey collided with a fellow player on Saturday and limped off the field, and Albert sprained his foot Thursday.
Head Coach Herm Edwards has said that Dorsey will undergo an MRI on his knee, and is listed as week to week, and that Albert's sprained foot is expected to be healed in a week, although may be entirely held out of the first preseason game to make sure he heals 100%.

Sunday night saw Packers revelation Ryan Grant agree to a 4 year deal that could see Grant pocket a cool $30m, with $4.25m guaranteed. The move hurts second year Brandon Jackson, who had excelled with the first string in Grant's absence, although depending on exactly how well he did, Jackson still figures to beat out DeShawn Wynn and Vernand Morency in the crowded Green Bay backfield.

Panthers WR Smith suspended by team
Following his end of week fight with team-mate CB Ken Lucas, star receiver Steve Smith has now been hit by the franchise - with a two game suspension. League rules entitle teams to internally suspend players for up to 4 games for conduct detrimental to the team.
Since Lucas was signed by the Panthers in 2005, he and Smith have regularly had verbal disputes in front of the press, but have never come to blows - at this time, it is unclear what caused tempers to boil over. Smith will miss the season opener at San Diego on September 7, and the home opener the following Sunday (14th) against Chicago.

Brandon Marshall out for 2-3 games
According to various NFL sources reported on NFL.com earlier today, starting Broncos WR Brandon Marshall is to be suspended for the first 3 games of the season, reduced to 2 if he voluntarily undertakes counselling for his recent off-field behaviour.
For Broncos fans, we suspect that they will be hoping that if Marshall does receive support from the league, Jay Cutler will be willing to provide him with a second chance after previously saying he needs to get himself together.
